Choose whether to sail, crew or follow the shoreside program
Antigua Sailing Week began in 1968 and has evolved into a point-to-point sailing rally with optional daily racing. The format links the island’s maritime conditions, anchorages and social life rather than keeping the entire experience on one closed racecourse.
The organizer’s preliminary notice confirms registration and briefing at Nelson’s Dockyard on April 21, followed by rally cruising and one optional race per day from April 22 through 25. Entries are open and the notice says end-of-day activity is open to non-sailors, but the 2027 destinations, detailed shoreside program, transfers and accessibility arrangements remain pending.
Our takeThe event is strongest as a participatory sailing trip. Non-sailors are welcome at end-of-day activity, but should not build an island-wide spectator itinerary from the previous edition because the 2027 destinations and transfers have not been released.
Is it worth the journey?
- World Sailing identifies it as the Caribbean’s longest-running regatta, with international competitors and a substantial shoreside tradition.
- The destination format makes Antigua’s coastline, anchorages and maritime culture part of the event rather than scenery around a generic race.
- Travelers can participate through a properly entered boat or crew, while non-sailors can join confirmed end-of-day social activity once the destination program is released.
Best for
- Sailors and competent crews who want a social Caribbean rally with optional racing
- Non-sailing companions willing to wait for the 2027 destination and spectator plan before fixing each day
Think twice if
- You need a fully published step-free transfer chain, spectator schedule or low-mobility plan before booking
- You do not have a qualified skipper, suitable insured boat or reputable charter and are being offered informal on-water access
The moments worth planning around
Briefing inside Nelson’s Dockyard
Mandatory registration and the competitors’ briefing establish the event in Antigua’s working maritime heritage before the fleet begins moving around the island.
A point-to-point day under sail
Each day links one destination to the next, with a rally window for cruisers and an optional buoy race for crews seeking competition.
The fleet reaches a new shore
The arrival mixes anchoring, dinghy or water-taxi logistics and social activity; the exact 2027 beaches and access plan must come from the final program.
The final Sunday prize giving
The preliminary notice schedules the final ceremony for the evening of April 25, bringing racing, rally crews and the shoreside community back together.
Planning your visit
Reserve
Enter only through the organizer’s YachtScoring link. The June 23 announcement offers US$12 per foot through October 31, while the June 22 preliminary notice still shows a US$14 tier; confirm the live amount and arrange dockage or mooring separately.
Official reservation guideArrive
Use a licensed airport taxi to English or Falmouth Harbour and agree the fare before travel. Arriving yachts must follow current clearance rules; the final 2027 destinations, water taxis and land shuttles are still pending.
Official transport guideBudget
The per-foot entry fee is only one line item. Budget separately for a suitable boat or charter, insurance, rating or measurement needs, berthing or mooring, fuel, provisions, shore transfers and lodging.
Handle the crowds
The main risks are maritime and late shore logistics rather than a continuous street crowd. Follow the race committee, keep life-saving equipment ready and use licensed transport instead of walking isolated roads or beaches after dark.
Bring the family
Families and non-sailing supporters can use the public shore program once it is released. Any child on a boat needs a correctly fitted lifejacket, a capable skipper and an itinerary suited to sea conditions rather than a casual spectator invitation.
Official family guidanceAccessibility
No complete 2027 accessible route is published. Floating docks, dinghy transfers, beaches and uneven historic surfaces can each break the chain, so contact the organizer about the exact boat, destination and shore event before paying.
Official accessibility guideSite rulesThere is no universal 2027 shoreside bag rule. On the water, follow the preliminary notice and final sailing instructions, carry required safety gear and keep personal items compact, waterproof and secured inside the boat.Check the official safety guidance
Where to stay
English and Falmouth Harbours are the resilient start-and-finish base. The rally itself moves overnight, so competitors must separately decide between a suitable liveaboard arrangement, a mothership or land accommodation coordinated with the final destinations.
Nelson’s Dockyard / English Harbour
Best for: Registration, briefing and a walkable historic base
Tradeoff: Scarce rooms, premium rates and event activity at the door
Falmouth Harbour
Best for: Marina services, restaurants and practical harbor access
Tradeoff: Some rooms sit on a steep hillside and the rally still moves away overnight
Approved liveaboard or mothership
Best for: Following the point-to-point itinerary with the fleet
Tradeoff: Requires competent seamanship, suitable facilities, insurance and confirmed moorings
Nelson’s Dockyard / English Harbour
Admiral’s Inn & Gunpowder Suites
A small heritage hotel inside the event headquarters with strong current review evidence, useful for registration, the briefing and the final return without depending on a road transfer into the Dockyard.
Know before booking: Rooms vary across historic buildings and the most convenient setting can also bring event noise, access controls and premium pricing. It does not solve transport to unannounced overnight destinations.
Falmouth Harbour
Antigua Superyacht Marina & Resort
A marina-facing base with hundreds of reviews on both required platforms, practical access to Falmouth services and a walkable connection to the English Harbour event area in ordinary conditions.
Know before booking: The property has no pool and some accommodations climb the hillside. Walking and vehicle assumptions must be rechecked against the 2027 event plan, and a land room cannot follow the moving fleet by itself.
Hotel ratings move over time. We check at least two independent sources and include a drawback, but you should still read recent reviews before paying.
Questions first-time visitors ask
When is Antigua Sailing Week 2027?
Registration and the competitors’ briefing are Wednesday, April 21. Rally cruising and optional racing run April 22–25, with the final prize giving scheduled for Sunday evening.
Do I need to be an experienced racer?
Not necessarily. The organizer offers rally cruising in company as well as optional racing, but every boat still needs a capable skipper, required safety equipment, insurance and compliance with the final instructions.
Can non-sailors attend?
Yes. The preliminary notice invites non-sailors to the end-of-day activity, but the exact 2027 destinations, spectator transport and admission details are not yet published.
Does the entry fee include a boat or hotel?
No. The announced fee is charged per foot of boat length. Charter, berthing or mooring, insurance, provisions, transfers and accommodation are separate.
